What is Evidence-Based Practice or EBP?

Three components of evidence-based practice.

Miranda A, Miah SJ (2019). Design and evaluation of a contextual model for information retrieval from web-scale discovery services to improve evidence-based
practice by health care practitioners: Mixed methods study. J Med Internet Res 2019;21(8):e12621. doi:10.2196/12621

Evidence-Based Practice is "the conscientious, explicit, and judicious use of current best evidence in making decisions about the care the individual patient. It means integrating individual clinical expertise with the best available external clinical evidence from systematic research."

Sackett DL, Rosenberg WM, Gray JA, Haynes RB, Richardson WS. Evidence based medicine: what it is and what it isn't. BMJ. 1996;312(7023):71-72.

There are five steps in the Evidence-Based Practice process:

1. Ask a Question

2. Search for Answers to your Research Question

3. Critically Appraise the Research

4. Apply your Findings to the situation

5. Assess the process
