If SBU owns the article and it has been linked directly from the journal by the publisher, you will see the ability to open the article on the left-hand side. Click on these links to open up the article in the preferred format.

If SBU owns the article and it has not been linked directly from the journal by the publisher, or SBU owns access to the article through multiple vendors, you will see a link on the left side called “Full Text Finder”. Click here and the SBU system will open the journal article for you.

Some publishers want you to visit their page to access articles, and access to those pages are provided through SBU. Links to access those articles can be located in several places. Check not only on the left hand side, but also within the body of the record as seen below.

There are articles that can be found when searching that SBU does not own. In these cases, one or two different links will appear on the left side of the screen.

1) Article Reach is the quickest way to request an article that SBU does not own. It asks for your name and your SBU ID followed by the SBU code: Example: 0123456SBU

***STUDENTS, this number is usually the six digits in your student email preceded by a "0."  Check your SBU ID card to verify this is your full ID number.

2) The article can be requested through interlibrary loan. This process takes longer, but is a good option if SBU does not own the article or if Article Reach is not available. Fill out the form and the article will be sent to you as soon as a lending library can be located.

You may also request articles that the library does not have available and that are not found when searching the SBU databases.

In order to do this, you will need the full citation of an article (title, author, journal name, volume number, date, page numbers). Once you have the citation information, you will fill out this request form (https://libguides.sbuniv.edu/circulation/interlibrary-loans). 

Make sure to provide your full name, your SBU email, and the date you need it by. It usually takes at least 2 days to receive the article, but it may take longer. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the library for help.
